For a quick synopsis of the effects that bankruptcy law may have on you, CLICK HERE.
Under the law, bankruptcy applicants who wish to file under Chapter 7 must meet certain
eligibility requirements under a "means test."
Under the "means test," if your average income for the past 6 months is less than the median income for your state,
you can file for bankruptcy under Chapter 7. But if your average monthly income is above the median
income for your state, and you can afford to pay $100 or more per month toward paying off your unsecured debt, you
cannot file under Chapter 7 and must proceed under Chapter 13.
CLICK HERE to check the median income for your state, by family size (Use the "Estimate" column in the state-by-state listings).
